Documents Checklist for USA Visitor Visa

Planning a visit to the USA for tourism, family, or business? Here’s a complete checklist of the required documents for a smooth visa application process:

Mandatory Documents:

  • Original Passport – Valid for at least six (06) months from the date of travel, with at least two (02) blank pages.
  • Visa Application Form (DS-160) – Duly filled and submitted online.
  • Visa Appointment Confirmation – Printed confirmation of the visa appointment scheduled via the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC).
  • Photographs – Two (02) recent passport-size color photos (51mm x 51mm, white background, matte finish, 50-69% face coverage).
  • Cover Letter – A letter explaining the purpose of travel, duration of stay, and travel itinerary.
  • Flight Reservation – Confirmed round-trip flight tickets.
  • Travel Insurance – Recommended for the duration of stay in the USA.
  • Proof of Accommodation – Hotel bookings or an Invitation Letter from the host in the USA, if applicable.

Financial Documents:

  • Bank Statement – Last six (06) months' updated bank statement, signed and stamped by the bank, showing a healthy balance.
  • Income Tax Returns (ITR) – For the last three (03) years.
  • Fixed Deposits / Investments – If applicable, to show additional financial stability.

Employment/Business Documents:

For Salaried Applicants:

  • Last three (03) months' salary slips.
  • Employment contract
  • Original leave approval letter from the employer.

For Self-Employed Applicants:

  • Business registration certificate.
  • Company bank statement for the last six (06) months.
  • Two (02) business letterheads.

For Students:

  • Bonafide certificate / School ID card / Fee receipt.

Documents from the Host (If Invited):

  • Invitation Letter –Signed letter from the host in the USA explaining the purpose of your visit.
  • Proof of Residency of the Host – Copy of passport, residence permit, or national ID.
  • Address Proof – Utility bill, rental contract, or property documents.
  • Financial Proof (if sponsor is funding the trip):
  • Last six (06) months’ bank statements.
  • Last three (03) years’ Income Tax Returns (ITR).

Important Notes:

  • Visa applications must be submitted online through the U.S. Department of State website or via an authorized agent.
  • Visa fees are non-refundable if the visa is refused.
  • Applicants may be required to provide biometric data (fingerprints and photograph).
  • Processing time for USA visitor visas typically takes 7-10 working days after the visa interview.
